Every form asks for a different set of painterly decision making. In the case of these I was painting a full composition on basically a flat wall of wet clay. How to get depth, action, interest, color, and everything else is always the challenge. I feel like this series was a success because the slips reacted in wild and mysterious ways, the soda gave the pieces a perfect glossy glow and the work opened itself up in a way I could never imagined. The magic of clay, glass, heat and the mysteries of plants.
